Hematopathology Services

Hematopathology is the subspecialty of pathology that involves the examination of tissues of the hematopoietic system, such as peripheral blood, bone marrow, lymph nodes, and spleen.  Hematopathology consultation is often elicited in the setting of unexplained cytopenias (low cell counts) or cytoses (elevated cell counts).  The diagnosis or exclusion of leukemias and lymphomas is often of prime consideration; however, many non-neoplastic conditions may also give rise to abnormalities in cell counts.  Enlarged lymph nodes or lymphadenopathy is another common concern which prompts a hematopathology consult.

We at Pathology Associates are committed to providing excellent service from performing the biopsy itself to issuing the final report.  Our board-certified pathologists provide comprehensive assessment of tissue samples including morphologic review, special stains, and immunohistochemistry.  In addition, we have partnerships with leading reference laboratories to provide flow cytometry, FISH, cytogenetics, and molecular studies when required.  Our final reports contain all of the ancillary studies in addition to the morphologic review to provide a global diagnostic report.
