Clinical Pathology Services
Clinical pathology is a very broad area of pathology that generally includes clinical chemistry, blood banking/transfusion medicine, hematology, microbiology, immunology, and cytogenetics/molecular diagnostics. Laboratory management is a central aspect of all the individual areas within clinical pathology. In order to provide accurate and reliable test results within a reasonable turn around time, laboratories rely on pathologists for good medical directorship and leadership.
At Pathology Associates, our pathologists provide medical directorship at several hospital-based laboratories within the community. We diligently ensure that our laboratories are meeting all standards set forth by CLIA and CAP regulatory and accrediting bodies, respectively. We work closely with laboratory staff to validate new tests, improve workflow, troubleshoot issues, participate in internal and external inspections. In addition, we regularly interpret moderate complexity tests and perform clinical consultations to our clinician colleagues.
In addition to laboratory responsibilities, we actively participate in multiple hospital committees, chair meetings, present at tumor board conferences, act as clinician liaisons, and help drive hospital policies that improve patient care and satisfaction.
We provide Laboratory Directorship services, ensuring all regulatory requirements are met as well as preparing laboratories for successful inspection.
Peripheral smear review by a Pathologist is often helpful in working up various anemias and leukocyte abnormalities.
Antinuclear antibody (ANA) screen positive (homogenous pattern). ANA titer determination is also performed as a reflex.
